چکیده

Background: We compared 3D-conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT) and intensity-modulated (IMRT) planning for left-sided post-mastectomy patients. Aim: To compare the dose coverage of target volume (PTV) delivered to organs at risk (OAR) 3D-CRT IMRT plans. Setting: Department Oncology, central South Africa. Methods: Twenty-six archived CT scans patients with breast cancer were included. The plans designed each patient using Monaco © system (version 5.11.02). Statistical analysis was performed PTV (V 95% , V 98% 105% ) doses heart, ipsilateral lung, combined lungs, contralateral breast, oesophagus. Results: 67.07% 0.21%, respectively, 92.32% 1.10% However, plans’ mean PTV, receiving prescribed (PD), 7.68% 3D-CRT’s 32.93%. resulted in a 22 Gy < 10% value 4.15%. 18.87 45% values lungs 28.09% 13.70%, respectively. showed lower oesophagus (5.07 Gy) 5 15% = 3.51%). Conclusion: It shown that treatment can effectively achieve clinical goals radiotherapy. Contribution: findings underscore continuing relevance oncology optimal low OAR dose.

3D-Conformal Radiation Therapy and Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy Techniques for Laryngeal Cancer Taking Parotid Glands as Organ at Risk

Background: Three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) and intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) techniques are used for the treatment of patients with laryngeal cancer. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of these 2 treatment techniques on the planning target volume (PTV) (laryngeal cancer), dose homogeneity, dose of organs at...

Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) technique for left breast cancer by different numbers of beam fields

Background: Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) can improve radiotherapy (RT) results by improving healthy tissue sparing. Additionally, IMRT provides more consistent dose deliveries and suppresses secondary tumor formation. RT is a principal treatment in breast cancer (BC). Aim: To evaluate the outcome of the Radiotherapy Plans (RTP) that use IMRT technique to left breast and other organs,...

Comparison of Radiobiological Models for Radiation Therapy Plans of Prostate Cancer: Three-dimensional Conformal versus Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy

Purpose: In the current study, using different radiobiological models, tumor control probability (TCP) and normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) of radiotherapy plans were calculated for three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT) and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) of prostate cancer. Methods and Materials: 10 prostate plans were randomly selected among patients ...

Radiobiological Model-Based Comparison of Three-Dimensional Conformal and Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy Plans for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

Introduction: Radiobiological modeling of radiotherapy plans are used for treatment plan comparisons. The current study aimed to compare the three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT) and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) plans for nasopharyngeal cancer using radiobiological modeling. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted on 10 patients with nasopharyngeal carci...

Optimization of tangential fields arrangement in the breast cancer 3D conformal radiation therapy

Introduction: The incidence of breast cancer increases with the rate of 1-2% at the world. Radiation therapy is one of the available choices for breast cancer treatment. The single isocentre half-beam block technique is considered as a standard technique to avoid hot and cold spots within the PTV. The major advantage of half beam technique is that the both contralateral breast...
